Cradle to Cradle Textiles


With Cradle to Cradle nutrient cycles are designed intelligently. Materials and chemicals are selected so that textiles are developed either for the technical cycle (e.g. polyester, nylon) or for the biological cycle (e.g. cotton, tencel, silk). In this way, innovative processes can be set in motion that consider the quality of textiles and create eco-effective effects. The textiles are not less bad, but:

  • ecologically and positively defined for skin contact
  • ecologically and positively defined to be reused as nutrient in cycles
  • ecologically and positively defined for clean rivers and oceans
  • manufactured with renewable energies
  • produced under socially fair conditions

Textiles for the biosphere

Textiles made from natural sources of raw materials such as cotton, viscose, silk or linen should safely return to the biological cycle as nutrients after being used. Therefor, not only the right materials have to be selected, but also all textile chemicals used (dyes and printing materials, finishing and process chemicals) must be defined for the biosphere.

The ecologically positive definition for the biosphere and thus the possible compostability does not exclude a long use of a T-shirt. The aim is that positively defined textiles according to C2C do not end up in conventional composting after a short period of use, but instead can be used in a cascade and are safe in the biological cycle. In particular the mechanical abrasion from textiles during the use phase.


Textiles for the technosphere

Synthetic materials such as polyester or polyamide shall be optimized for recycling as raw materials in the technical cycle. This means that the highest possible recyclability is ensured. In addition, if it is ensured that the abrasion of these textiles does not end up in the sewage or in the environment, resources can be optimally recycled in combination with intelligent and digitized take-back systems.

In this way, a world without waste can become reality.
